Placement Options
Math and Writing placement are required for all incoming degree seeking students. Use our Placement Tool to help you determine which of our Placement Options is best for you.
Accepted Transcripts and Documents for Placement

Students who do not meet any of the following options for Math and Writing placement will be required to take a placement assessment.
- Transcript from Another Regionally Accredited College
Completion of a math, writing, and/or reading courses with a grade of “C” or better at another regionally accredited college. Please have your official transcript sent to Student Records (must be an OFFICIAL transcript).
- Cumulative High School Grade Point Average (CGPA)
Students who have graduated from high school with a standard high school diploma within the last five years and have a cumulative high school GPA of a 3.0 or higher. High school transcripts must include your date of graduation. Math placement into MTH095 or MTH098 only. Writing placement into WR115 only.
- Placement Assessments
If you have taken an ACCUPLACER or ALEKS assessments within the last two (2) years, BMCC will use your placement scores for your initial math and writing placement. If you took your assessments at another college, please have your scores emailed to testingcenter@bluecc.edu directly from the college where you took the assessment.
AP math or writing tests taken within the last three (3) years. Have scores mailed to us from The College Board. Check the link below for more information.
Credit for Prior LearningStudents who have completed their GED within the last two years can have their transcripts mailed to BMCC for review. Transcripts can be ordered from GED.com.

NOTE: Placement scores from ACCUPLACER Writing and ALEKS Math assessments are uploaded to our system three times daily.
Scores are also available for you to view and download on their websites using login information for ACCUPLACER and ALEKS.
