Board of Education

Seven volunteers are elected to the Blue Mountain Community College Board of Education to represent geographic zones within the district. 

Board of Education members serve the college and our community in the following ways:

• Approve the college vision and mission statements
• Hire and supervise the college president
• Approve policies
• Approve major expenditures
• Approve the annual budget in cooperation with the college Budget Committee
• Represent the college at events each year

The Board typically meets the first Wednesday of each month (in Pendleton, Hermiston, Boardman, Baker City or Milton-Freewater). Regular Board meetings are open to the public.

Chris Brown, Zone 1

Chris Brown resides on a ranch near Heppner where he was raised. In 1997, Chris retired from the U.S. Army at the rank of Colonel after 28 years of service. He is a decorated Vietnam combat infantry veteran and holds a Bachelor's Degree from Oregon State University, a Master's Degree from Pacific Lutheran University, and is a graduate of the National War College in Washington, D.C. Chris is the current BMCC Budget Committee Chair, served twice on the BMCC Bond Political Action Committee (PAC) campaigns, and continues to represent Morrow County on several other BMCC panels and reviews. His wife, Kathy, is a former BMCC employee, and their son, Kyle, attended BMCC before beginning his current career in the U.S. Army.

Bill Markgraf, Zone 2

Bill Markgraf graduated from Blue Mountain Community College, joined the Air Force Reserves, and retired from the military.  Mr. Markgraf received his Bachelor's degree through Oregon State University at Eastern Oregon University.  He has two grown children and four grandchildren.
