Assessment

Assessment is determining how BMCC is performing in all aspects of what we do and therefore how well we accomplish our mission. As importantly, the results must target and guide improvement. These efforts generally fall into two complimentary areas: Learning Outcomes assessment focuses upon student learning of stated learning outcomes to assure students are learning what we say they will learn. More than proving a benchmark of learning, assessment is intended to inform curriculum designers and instructional coaches where improvements can be made. Operational goals and objectives are the second major assessment effort, which is to determine the effectiveness of the college in meeting its strategic plan goals and fulfill its mission. Where learning outcomes fall upon the academic departments, all departments and programs give attention to assessing operational goals and institutional effectiveness.
